About Kings Park Warriors

Our Story

The origins of Kings Park Warriors began with a life-altering experience for Gregg Oughton, our founder. While at the gym with his wife, Julia, he suddenly felt an unfamiliar sensation and his vision became distorted. Recognizing the urgency, Julia wasted no time rushing Gregg to the hospital, where he received swift and crucial clot-busting treatment. Forever grateful for his wife’s quick actions and the hospital’s care, Gregg realized that not everyone who experiences such a medical event is as fortunate.

Following a ‘Living well with ABI’ course at the State Head Injury Unit (SHIU) at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Gregg contacted a group of fellow attendees to catch up over coffee in Kings Park to share challenges and wisdom on a weekly basis. Initially the people meeting were primarily stroke survivors, but SHIU heard about what we were doing from some of the members and started referring people with other brain injuries and conditions.

Why We Do This

At Kings Park Warriors, we understand the immense challenges faced by those with acquired brain injuries and the lasting impact it has on their lives. Our mission is to provide a helping hand, a listening ear, and a supportive community throughout this difficult journey.

Through our various initiatives, we aim to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals with ABIs and their families. We organize support groups, educational workshops, recreational activities, and community events to foster a sense of belonging and promote overall well-being.

Together, as a community, we can empower individuals, restore hope, and navigate the challenges of acquired brain injuries. Let’s stand strong like the majestic trees of Kings Park, supporting each other on the path to healing and recovery.
